2 Billion Support Lao Government in Fighting Covid-19

Vientiane, 26 March 2020 – The Lao Brewery Co. Ltd. (LBC) has pledged to contribute LAK 2 Billion (USD 223,000) to support the Lao PDR government, Ministry of Public Health and frontline healthcare workers in responding to and managing the COVID-19 outbreak in Laos.

Lao Brewery Company Ltd Managing Director Henrik Andersen said, “We have witnessed the devastation this deadly disease has caused globally, so we want to do our part to support the Lao Government as it manages this pandemic locally. The people of Laos choose to support Lao Brewery during good times, so in turn, we want to support the Government and the people of Laos during challenging times, through this contribution.”

The contribution was presented to Deputy Prime Minister Somdy Duangdy in Vientiane today. Over the last few days, Laos has recorded its first two cases of COVID-19, with both patients now quarantined with medical care.

LBC supports and complies with the initiatives taken by the Government to curb the spread of the deadly virus that causes COVID-19, including the order to suspend mass gatherings, celebrations of days of national importance, the 11th National Games, weddings and social events, as well as the closure of schools and institutes of higher learning.

Internally, LBC is taking firm measures to ensure its 2,500 staff in Vientiane as well as in Pakse are well-informed and trained on pre-emptive measures to curb the spread of the disease. Safety measures are already in place in the brewery facility, with the management also working to keep employees up-to-date on WHO advice to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

“As a major business enterprise in Laos, the Lao Brewery Company takes seriously our responsibility to support our employees, the community at large as well as the Government – for the benefit of everyone in the country. Let us all work hand-in-hand to fight and defeat this disease, together,” Andersen added.
